Internet Marketing Intro

I remember just how frustrating it was venturing into the Internet Marketing industry.
Every Internet Marketer claimed to be the ‘very best’, and their methods were the “only ones worth following’. I really had no idea what to do, who to believe, or where to turn for sound advice without being led around on a very short leash., with my credit card seemingly always in my hand ready to purchase the next ‘map to nowhere’.

The money I spent trying to find the missing pieces, the lost chapters of what I believed to be the Blueprint to online success, nearly sent me to the poorhouse, and in the end I was still at square one, with only a slight idea of what direction to take. Sure, I knew a bit more than when I started out. I could now construct a decent website, find potential buyers, make a few dollars from affiliate marketing and set up a Google ad campaign that was somewhat effective, but always extremely costly.

The tough part about being a newbie in the Internet Marketing world is that there are so many options available to you, that unless you figure out, early on, exactly what direction you are going to take, AND stick to, you will create a never-ending maze of opportunities and half-finished projects that go nowhere. Links to you from related sites are an indication to the engines that these sites like you. So for example if you are selling Ford cards and other ford cars sites link to you, whether that be for accessories or for servicing, then that link will count in your favour. It is therefore in your best interest to set up an ongoing process whereby you accumulate these types of link. You can do this yourself or have an agency do it for you.

Originally any links counted but now the engines are better and only give power to links from related sites. It's no use having links from someone selling motor bikes, for example.

Often marketers from another region will list themselves in an region or city just to get back links . Watch out for this and report them if you come across them.
Sometimes a company will have 2 listings in local search, perhaps because the operator entered errors. You can report this to Google and have one of these entries removed

For normal organic results, our site needs optimised to show it is not just a general directory like Touch Nottingham, etc. Good as those sites are, we want people to link through directly to our site not to a 3rd party. The fewer clicks the better.
